‘Playboy’ Creator Hugh Hefner Dies At Age 91

The legendary Mr. Playboy, Hugh Hefner, has passed away at 91 years old. According to a report, he passed away from natural causes.

Hefner was survived by his wife, Crystal, his sons, Cooper, David and Marston, and his daughter, Christie.

After almost 65 years as the so-called “King of the Ladies,” Hugh has died. Until his last days, he remained the editor-in-chief of Playboy and COO of Playboy Enterprises, Inc.

Hugh was born April 9, 1926, in Chicago to Grace Caroline and Glenn Lucius Hefner. Hugh had said that on his father’s side of the family, he was a direct descendant of Plymouth governor William Bradford.

After taking part in the war, Hugh attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he received his bachelor of arts in psychology, with a double minor in creative writing and art.

It was a brief stint at Esquire that led Hugh to launch his Playboy empire.  After being denied a $5 raise, Hugh left his job as a copywriter for Esquire. He mortgaged his furniture and raised $8,000 through 45 investors — including his mother, who contributed $1,000.

“Not because she believed in the venture,” Hugh told E! in 2006, “but because she believed in her son.”

The first edition of Playboy was released in December 1953. The publication originally was going to be called Stag Party. The cover featured Marilyn Monroe from a 1949 nude-calendar photo shoot. It sold 50,000 copies.

Playboy grew as a magazine, and its nude and semi-nude models helped launch part of the sexual revolution in the ’50s and ’60s. Since its inception, Playboy has morphed into Playboy Enterprises, Inc., which includes the magazine and merchandising, as well as television and gaming endeavors.

Hugh’s romantic relationships have become as infamous as the Playboy publication. He was married three times during his lifetime but had many girlfriends, most of whom lived in the Playboy Mansion with him.

May he rest in peace. Please SHARE this to honor Hugh’s life and work!
