The Secrets Behind the Creation of Green Eggs and Ham

Books are Simple Right? Sometimes, but sometimes there is much more to it.

When you think of a book, especially a children's book, you think it often has a simple origin and there's nothing to it other than the other writing it. In the case of Green Eggs and Ham, it wasn't so simple!

The idea behind Green Eggs and Ham started before it was even an idea. After coming off of the giant success of The Cat in the Hat, Dr Seuss's editor (Bennett Cerf) bet him that he could not write a book with 50 words or less. After all, the Cat in the Hat was a simple story, yet was 225 words.

Dr. Seuss was never one to back down from a challenge and from there, Green Eggs and Ham was an idea and he starting brainstorming and writing it. Not to mention started on the illustrations of it as well.

Wondering what the 50 words are? Don't worry, we have that too. Here are the 50 words in Green Eggs and Ham: a, am, and, anywhere, are, be, boat, box, car, could, dark, do, eat, eggs, fox, goat, good, green, ham, here, house, I, if, in, let, like, may, me, mouse, not, on, or, rain, Sam, say, see, so, thank, that, the, them, there, they, train, tree, try, will, with, would, you.

The iconic book ended up being exactly 50 words and was a hit and still read and loved by many to this day.

Crazy isn't it? We wouldn't have this awesome book if Dr. Seuss's editor didn't issue him a silly challenge and if Dr Seuss wasn't crazy enough to accept the challenge and follow through with it! Proving that quality wins over quantity! Hence why we (and many others) love Dr. Seuss so much!

So simple, yet so awesome!
